I´m so sad to hear about Akira. I´m sending lots of healing vibes. it´s scary how they can be sick for quite a while and not show it. I hope her blood levels improve. I wonder if there´s anything like peritoneal-dialysis for cats?

I just google it and found this:
"Peritoneal dialysis
Peritoneal dialysis uses the peritoneum (the thin lining of the abdominal cavity) as the filter for separating waste products from larger substances. The dialysis is performed with a special tube that a veterinarian uses to fill the cat's abdominal cavity with dialysis fluid. Waste products in the body suffuse into the fluid. The doctor then removes the fluid from the abdominal cavity and discards it, repeating the procedure until the level of waste products is adequately reduced.
Peritoneal dialysis is easy to perform in cats and is not painful for the patient. The need for constant monitoring and professional application usually limits the use of peritoneal dialysis to the treatment of reversible acute renal failures where the dialysis performs the waste removal function of the kidneys while the kidneys themselves are recovering."
and this:
"Title: Peritoneal dialysis in cats with complete ureteral obstruction. Personal Authors: Kalinbacak, A., Kirmizigul, A. H., Atalay, O., Albay, M. K., Karakurum, M. C., Kaya, M. Author Affiliation: Department of Internal Disease, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Anakara University, Diskapi, 06110, Ankara, Turkey. Editors: No editors Document Title: Indian Veterinary Journal
Abstract:
A total of 3 female cats and 3 male cats were studied. Results showed that the peritoneal dialysis conducted at 6 h intervals for 2 days, though not enough to completely remove harmful metabolites, was still effective in stabilizing the general condition of the animals, as well as most of the biochemical parameters.

If Akira has an acute kidney faliure that might work to bring the BUN down.... Or has your vet tried this already?
How did the blood test turn out? I hope you get to spend some time with her.

We are all thinking of you and Akira, Marloes and willing her to pull through. If there is any justice in the world then she will.
2blue that is really interesting, thank you for posting that. I have never heard of Peritoneal dialysis. Forewarned is forearmed as they say. I wouldn't trust the majority of UK vets to know anything about it, but if mentioning it to them makes them go and do a bit of research then thats all to the good. Other countries do seem to be in advance of us.

Marloes We bidden dat Akira er door komt en genoeg hersteld om naar huis te mogen komen. Houd de moed erin en laat ons weten of er iets is dat we kunnen doen.

dank jullie wel. Within a few hours we will know more... I have a little hope but not a big hope that she is doing better today... I think we will be so terrible sad when we have to let her go....
meezer3- 06-13-2009
Of course I am still praying for you...right to the last minute.
If you have to let her go, then at least St Francis will know she is coming and be waiting to welcome her home.
I feel so badly for you..its never easy to say "goodbye".
The only thing is you must remember you gave her a good life and she was much loved. That's all any of us can ask for.
