PipandZoo- 07-01-2009
Hi I'm reading thru all the posts and this is my second post.

My two kittens I will be getting I have named Tristan and Isolde (even though they are bro and sis and that is a love story) and if I get this other guy his name is Tex because he is from Texas.

How about this one for a long name- Nicky-Nicky-Tembo-No-So-Rembo-Oooh-ma-moochie-gamma-gamma-goochie! (from a book I had as a child about a little fat boy who falls into a well and it takes the whole town to get him out-would probably be politically incorrect in this day and age)but I never forget that name!

Gina.

Well we dubbed our ginger boy Taz, because when he was kitten he literally ran in circles chasing his tail to amuse him self he would make it half way across the room just by doing this( reminding me of the Tasmanian Devil cartoon.). MingToy stands for beautiful doll in Chinese, We decided on Sabbath for pudgy puss as in holy day, (Black Sabbath just did not suit her personality) Now my Bella had started out as Izzabella but was shortened

LoveMyLolo- 07-02-2009
Lautrec was named Emanuel van der Nessermolen by his Dutch breeders...but for us he just didn't seem like an Emanuel...a friend said we should call him 'Gigolo' because he is such a love...in the end, he became Lautrec because he is cross-eyed and in French, as many of may know, if you say to someone 'you are cross-eyed' you would say 'tu louche'...which sounds sort of like 'Toulouse' as in Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, but instead of reminding him of his problem and because I love the paintings of Toulouse-Lautrec (the painter!), we decided to call him Lautrec. From that he has become Lolo, Lolo-bolo and many other names. (Why French, because my husband and I had been living in Geneva, Switzerland when we willingly became Lautrec's slaves).

Tiny was named Jezinka (a Czech name - my husband is Czech and he chose her name), which she still goes by, but Tiny is used more because she is small and often I call her Tiny-Mighty because THAT, she is!!

Capuccina - or Chi-chi - was a kitten we found while vacationing in Tuscany...we loved capuccini there so as a sort of souvenir, she got that name (with an 'a' at the end to make it the feminine form of the word) even though she was a grey tabby cat. She ended up getting called Chi-chi because it was part of CapuCHIna and also because this is how Czechs call a cat 'chi-chi' - much like in the States we say 'kitty-kitty'.

Oreo was a beautiful black and white cat so you can guess where his name came from - afterall who doesn't like Oreos!? We found Oreo near our cabin in Tahoe - actually, he found us the evening that we were grilling salmon over the fire!!

Tigger - a tabby - that is an easy one!! I didn't have her too long, but sometimes I think that Tiny is Tigger reincarnated...not only do they have similar coloring, they also have similar characters...does anyone believe in this or am I crazy??

Lao'tza - my first great Meezer love that our family got when I was 8 - he got his name because when I was growing up, our family lived in Taiwan and we were influenced by Chinese names (we had a collie name 'Lockie' after a famous chinese painter) and the names of Chinese philosophers...my dad found the name Lao'tza and it fit perfectly. Sometimes I think Lautrec is Lao'tza reincarnated because the first time Lautrec met me he just came up to me and plopped down on my feet as if he and I had been buddies for a long time. (Lautrec is my second great Meezer love and he is purring on my lap right now as I type this!!) I miss Lao'tza to this day.

Names, I love them all! siamesechat/stars.gif

To start we had Ping Pong, my first Siamese.
Then came Fu Manchu (for the mask of Fu Machu) aka Phooey.
Then Maki (Makimoto Eto), very japanese.
Then Maui (Kaanapali Maui, after a famous Hawiian resort we stayed at years ago).

Then Kookie, the A teams mother (Registered: Enchanted Evening). She was Kookie with all her "Kookie crumbs"(kittens).

Alfie was named his name because he was born in my first litter, the "A" litter or as I lovingly call them, the A team.
They were all A's...
Annie (Registered name: Anisette),
Amos (Registered name:Famous Amos, after a name brand of chocolate chip cookies, because he was a chocolate point),
Ande (Registered name: Ande's Candies, a famous brand of chocolate mint candies), Adam
and Alfie.

Jo was named before I got her. The breeder, who named her, named all her cats after famous racehorses, so her name is really Jolypha.(Her father was Seattle Slew) I had to look it up and see IF there was really a horse named that, and there was.
Then there was Susie (Chosen Slew..another race horse, from the same breeder as Jo)

My B litter was:
Smudge, (Her color points were smudgy)
Mouse, (was very tiny)
Cinny (Cinnabon- a popular hot cinnamon bun with sweet frosting),
Barnum
and Bailey (the circus was in town that day.)

And not to be forgotten, was my daughters Siamese Mix kitten I got for her shortly before her marriage...Suki (yes, Otters, I had one too smile.gif ) We named her kitten a combination of our names -Sue+Kim= SuKi.

Oh, and my lovely Blk & white Moogie, Lulu. Found as a stray in our yard, she was named that "because she was a -real- Lulu". smile.gif

I think I got them all. A span of cats since 1972. siamesechat/laugh.gif

Like most of you I have a list of future names picked out (Did you think I was going to stop keeping Siamese?? No way, they'll have to bury me first smile.gif .) and I add to them,or delete as the spirit moves me, as I go along.

Thanks for making me realize that I'm not unusual at all in my thinking... siamesechat/SEVeyesB08_th.gif

MingToy- 07-02-2009
I had lots more, too many to name!!..lol

Mrs Batty- 07-03-2009
Garfield & Gizmo used to belong to my Son and were named when we got them...

'Izzy' was a name I'd always liked and she looked like an 'Izzy' wub.gif

Percys' name was in his pedigree (Suspiria Percy Shelley) and it sort of 'stuck' but Jasmins' pedigree is 'Suspiria Lillium Regale' but one of the other kitties in her litter was already called 'Lily' so we hummed and harred for days and decided on 'Jasmin', she was very very tiny and petite and it really suited her...

'Teddy' couldn't really be called anything else! siamesechat/laugh.gif before we went to see him I had been trying to think of a name...his pedigree is ' Jandouglen Harry Houdini' (Percy has 'Houdini' in his pedigree too!) but judging by the photo his breeder sent me he didn't really suit ' Harry' so I decided to wait until we actually saw him.... When we got to the breeders house there were lots of Birmans running about and playing but then Ann (the breeder) brought this beautiful fluffy boy into the room...I instantly fell in love wub.gif and as soon as I looked at him I knew he was my 'Teddy Bear Blue' (he's a blue point) siamesechat/loveshower.gif

Can't believe I missed this post the first time round! siamesechat/th_thembarrassedgirl.gif

otterwhiskers- 07-03-2009

Well since this thread was started we now have Madison, okay not technically a Meezer, but we've been bringing her up as a cat, so..... When I first saw her photo the name 'Mallory' sprang to mind but when I looked it up it meant 'unlucky' in French, so Wilf didn't want to use it. rolleyes.gif Because 'Madison' was similar to that and I thought it also suited her so we stuck with that! smile.gif

Now, how she came to have her middle name is another story! siamesechat/th_255.gif As anyone who has ever had a dog knows, they are quite food orientated. blink.gif If we are eating and Maddie is standing there starring at us the command we use is 'away' and she has to leave the room. We were saying that quite a lot when she was younger and we were training her "Madison away. Madison away. Madison away!" and all of a sudden this song came into my head....

[dohtml]<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/x_xmujSyxkU&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/x_xmujSyxkU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/dohtml]

So, yep, Madison's middle-name is 'Whipcrack'! siamesechat/th_255.gif So now the command is "whipcrack, away!" siamesechat/smiley.gif

Leia is the name the breeder gave her because she was in the "L" litter and I didn't want to change it because I love Star Wars.

I am having the hardest time though coming up with the 'registered' name for her so I can turn in her papers. I was looking for something that alludes to Star Wars but includes her coloring too.

Something like "Scoundrel's lavender love" Han Solo was the scoundrel and my kitty is lilac. unsure.gif

I like that! smile.gif You could try a less literal way to include her Lilac points too - I picked 'Alaska' because that landscape reminded me of her colouring. If you wanted to try a Star Wars theme what about something like 'Ice Moon Princess' referring to the planet Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back?

Otters - how in the world do you come up with 'um??? siamesechat/laugh.gif siamesechat/laugh.gif

Batty - I missed this first time round too - is that bag big enough for the both of us? siamesechat/th_thembarrassedgirl.gif

Thanks to our new member for finding such great 'old' threads to revive!

My little Suki was named by Daniel - being an avid Japanophile I wanted a Japanese name - I got tired of searching on the internet and asked Daniel to do it - at that time we thought we were having a boy as we were told the only girl was spoken for - Daniel came up with a great (real) Japanese boy's name meaning 'winter born son' (for the life of me I can't remember it at this point in time) and when we went the little girl was available - we had 5 to choose from (only one had left the nest) and we decided on her wub.gif so back home and back to the internet for Daniel - I liked Netsuke as I think these are lovely little objects, but it's just too big of a name - - we did try it out for a few days - and Daniel found a site with Japanese names and he foudn Suki under the girls names and it means 'beloved' - so I just thought it perfect!

Bamboo came with his name and it's his ped name too and I liked it and it suits him so well.

Milou is Tintin's dog in the French version (he's called snowy in English) and as Chartreux are such doggy cats I thought the name was cute and that it suited him

ZoƩ - well it's just a name I like a lot

Minette - a black cat who passed over the bridge in 2005, turned up in our garden in August 1996 when we moved into this little flat with a garden - she was a wee wild thing and so cute we called her Minette - when means cutie in French and probably a million French cats have this name - but by the fall came and we had decided to keep her - the name had stuck!

At that time I had my dear departed Chaussette, who came over from the states with me - she was a lovely long hired black cat with white paws - chaussette is French for socks!
When I was a teenager I had a cat that looked exactly like Chussette and he was called Bootie. siamesechat/loveshower.gif

Kadepie, I like you ped name idea

Blit- 07-03-2009
Billi after his sire General Bilbo (we did toy with Bilbo Baggins for a bit but didn't really fancy that name)

Merlin after witchery and all things magick (and because he has a big M on his head)

Minnie got hers because she was already named Fleetie when we got her and Lou thought that name was naff, she was a scared timid little mouse like thing to start with (you should see her now) and because Minnie goes with Merlin better and they are like twins, never apart.

Our next pussum will either be named Jake (after the tweenies) or Lucy short for Lucifer.

PipandZoo- 07-04-2009
I must add my rainbow babies names: Pippin and Zooey. I had Franny and then Zooey (JD Salinger). Franny died from a balcony fall (I still feel guilty about that) and I had Baby-Zoo until recently. Pippin (from Dickens)or also called Pippy.
When I was growing up we had several tabbys all called Tomasina (whether boys or girls).

Gina.

Mrs Jack Bauer- 07-06-2009
siamesechat/th_thembarrassedgirl.gif Bag needs to be big enough for 3 - I missed this first time round too.

Mine are pretty boring really - Xena (Warrior Princess), Ned Kelly and Caffreys were all litter names from their breeder and I felt they suited them so didn't change them.

Nicknames change from day to day. Ned is currently biscuit bum, because he has 'ginger nuts'. Caffreys is usually Mr scrummy boy loveloves, and Xena is usually called bumble-ena because it rhymes with Xena rolleyes.gif

gaia227- 07-09-2009
Everest was named so because of his coloring - he is white, blue and gray with ice-blue ice - and because he was in dire straits when I found him and I wanted him to have a strong, powerful name and Mt. Everest is the biggest mountain in the world so....

Xiang Mao (Mao or Mao-Mao) means Panda Bear in Chinese which literally translates into English as 'big cat.' We call him Mao or Mao-Mao mostly. He is black and white and fluffy so the panda reference makes sense.

Fossey was named after Dian Fossey who worked and died trying to save the Mt. Gorillas in Rwanda from deforestation and poachers.

Alyosha is named after the character Alyosha from the Russian novel The Brothers Karmazov.

otterwhiskers- 07-09-2009

Those are great names - I particularly like 'Alyosha'. siamesechat/th_bf-sunglasswinksmiley.gif
